Steels Gate Wines is a boutique winery and restaurant nestled in Dixons Creek, Yarra Valley, about 60 km from Melbourne, run by vignerons Matthew Davis and Brad Atkins.




About Steels Gates Wines

The estate comprises two primary vineyard blocks: the Home Block at Steels Creek, established in the late 1970s on an undulating slope with friable grey loam soils at 230 m elevation, and the Melba Block in Dixons Creek, planted in the early 1980s at about 150 m elevation. Both blocks are tended with minimal intervention; the Home Block is dry-grown, ungrafted and hand-nurtured, with fruit mostly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines. Over time the property has expanded to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, particularly in their single barrel ranges.

The winery embraces sustainable viticulture and craftsmanship, aiming for elegant, terroir-driven wines that reflect the cool climate of the region. Their cellar door and restaurant offer guests wine tastings paired with a seasonal menu that draws heavily on local produce and their own kitchen garden, served in a setting surrounded by the vineyard and regional bush. Wine offerings include whites, reds, non-estate wines, fortifieds and experimental blends. Overall, Steels Gate presents a full sensory experience combining quality wine, food, landscape and hospitality.
