Soumah
Soumah of Yarra Valley is a boutique winery located in Gruyere, Victoria, about an hour from Melbourne in the foothills of the Warramate Ranges, “south of Maroondah” (from which the name Soumah is derived). It was established in the late 1990s (1997) and the Soumah label itself launched around 2010 after years of vineyard development. Their main vineyard is Hexham on the Warramate foothills, complemented by sourcing small parcels from other premium sites for single vineyard wines.
About Soumah
Soumah specialises in cool-climate wine styles, blending classic Yarra varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a strong dedication to northern Italian varietals including Savarro (or Savagnin), Brachetto, Nebbiolo, Marzemino, Barbera and also Pinot Grigio. Their winemaking philosophy emphasises savory elegance, balance, terroir expression and restrained oak use, with low yields and attention to vine practices (“supervised control” or lutte raisonnée) to maintain quality. Over the years, Soumah has earned many awards, especially for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and its unique Italian-style wines.
The site also features a cellar door, an Italian-style trattoria called Ai Fiori, and premium tasting and hospitality experiences for visitors wanting food, wine and vineyard ambience in a relaxed yet refined setting.
