Greenstone Vineyards

Greenstone Vineyards is a boutique winery straddling two premier Victorian regions—Heathcote and the Yarra Valley—offering wines deeply rooted in place, soil and climate.  Founded in 2003 by winemaking luminaries David Gleave MW, Alberto Antonini, and viticulturist Mark Walpole, Greenstone first focussed on Heathcote for its ancient Cambrian soils and suitability for Mediterranean varieties such as Shiraz and Sangiovese. In 2015 they expanded into the Yarra Valley, acquiring the former Sticks vineyard in Yarra Glen, which added about 33 hectares.

About Greenstone

The Yarra Valley portion, situated at the foothills of the Christmas Hills, is planted with cool-climate varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Petit Verdot. The soils here are old silty loams over Silurian mudstones, naturally low in nutrients, which help limit vigor and enhance flavour concentration.

Greenstone’s winemaking philosophy emphasises elegance, purity and terroir expression. Yields are kept low; viticulture is mindful, with minimal soil disturbance and sustainable practices. Winemaking is relatively hands-off, allowing varietal character and site specificity to shine.

The Cellar Door in Yarra Glen is a scenic, relaxed destination (about an hour from Melbourne). Visitors can taste both the Heathcote and Yarra Valley ranges, enjoy platters or cheese, and soak up vineyard views. Many wines are exclusive to cellar door.
